Maple-Walnut Blondies With Maple Candy Glaze

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, cream together brown sugar, maple sugar, butter and eggs.
  3. Stir in vanilla, baking powder and baking soda.
  4. Then stir in flour 1 cup at a time until well combined.
  5. Fold in walnuts.
  6. Spread batter evenly into a greased 9-inch x 13-inch baking pan.
  7. Note: the batter will be quite thick.
  8. Bake for 30 minutes or until done (a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean).
  9. Cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes.
  10. For the glaze: In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, bring maple syrup to a boil.
  11. Boil for 5-8 minutes or until syrup reduces by half and is the consistency of a glaze.
  12. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 2 minutes.
  13. One spoonful at a time, drizzle glaze evenly over warm blondies.
  14. Allow to sit for five minutes until glaze begins to harden--like maple candy.
  15. Cut blondies into 2-inch pieces and serve.
  16. I think these would go really well with maple-walnut ice-cream.
