One Foot In The Fire Fudge Cake
- 1/2 c. water
- 2 (10 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate
- 2/3 c. shortening
- 1 3/4 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 3/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- Combine water and chocolate.
- Cook over low heat; stir constantly until melted.
- Remove from heat and cool.
- Cream shortening.
- Gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed. Add eggs, one at a time.
- Beat well after each.
- Combine flour, soda and salt.
- Add to creamed mixture alternating with buttermilk.
- Start and end with mixture.
- Add chocolate mixture and vanilla; mix until well blended.
- Pour into three greased and floured 9-inch cake pans.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 17 to 19 minutes. Cool in pans for 10 minutes.
- Remove from pan and cool completely on racks.
- Spread with fluffy white filling between layers. Chocolate on top and sides.
