Fruit Cookies

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and spices.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the shortening and brown sugar.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time.
  5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
  6. Fold in the candied fruit.
  7. Drop mounds of dough from a small scoop or teaspoon 1 1/2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  8. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until lightly brown on edges.
  9. Transfer to wire racks to cool.
