Sausage Bean Tamale Bake Recipe
- 3/4 pound sweet or possibly warm Italian sausages
- 1 med. onion, minced
- 1 clove garlic, chopped or possibly pressed
- 1 can (20 3/4 ounce.) pork and beans in tomato sauce
- 3 tbsp. tomato juice or possibly water
- 1/2 teaspoon chili pwdr
- Remove sausages from casings.
- Crumble into large skillet.
- Cook, stirring, till browned.
- Drain, reserving 1 Tbsp.
- fat.
- Put fat into skillet.
- Add in onion and garlic.
- Saute/fry till onion is tender.
- Stir in sausage, beans, tomato juice and chili pwdr.
- Turn into greased shallow 1 1/2 qt baking dish.
- Tamale topping: in bowl mix 2/3 c. buttermilk baking mix, 1/3 c. yellow cornmeal and 1/2 tsp.
- chili pwdr.
- Add in 1 egg and 1/4 c. lowfat milk.
- Stir only till dry ingredients are moistened.
- Spoon Tamale Topping around edge of dish.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 20 min or possibly till topping is golden brown.
