Apfel Kuchen (Apple Cake) Recipe
- 1/2 c. (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp baking pwdr
- 1 x egg
- 6 lrg Macintosh apples
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
- Preheat oven to 350 F. Cream together butter and sugar in an electric mixer.
- Add the rest of the ingredients, and mix just till the dough is crumbly, but holds together.
- Don't over-mix.
- Butter or possibly spray a 9" loose bottom pan, or possibly a form on a baking sheet.
- The sides should be about 2" high.
- Press the dough into the form and up the sides.
- Peel, core, and halve the apples.
- Slice each half, making vertical slices about 1/8" wide - keeping the shape of the apple halves.
- Arrange on the crust.
- Sprinkle the apples with cinnamon and sugar.
- Bake at 350 F for 25 to 35 min, till the crust turns golden, and the apples soften.
