Red Chile sauce or red chile Con Carne
- 1 lb ground beef, cubed beef, or pork
- 1 tbsp flour
- 2 cup water
- 6 tbsp red chile powder
- 1 salt to taste
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 1 tbsp shortening or oil
- 1 tsp Mexican oregano optional
- 1/2 tsp fresh ground cumin seed optional
- Melt shortening, add meat and fry, flour may be added now or later in recipe.
- when meat is cooked add garlic, salt, & chile powder mix well.
- the amount chile can be adjusted to taste as heat can vary
- Add water and flour, let simmer for 1/2 hour, if too thick add more water, if to thin add flour, it's best to keep it on the thin side.
- can be made thicker if you like
- for simple red chile sauce use the recipe minus the and meat.
- Only mix the Chile, water, flour, & garlic, little oil to fry the garlic before adding the other ingredients
- good multi use sauce, add a few spoons to a bowl of beans, posole, tamales, eggs and potatoes, burritos, and is the sauce used for enchiladas
- the oregano and cumin can be added in step 2 it is not required and only an option
