Sourdough Doughnuts Recipe
- 1 egg
- Sugar
- 1/2 c. prepared sourdough starter
- 1/4 c. buttermilk
- 1 1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil
- 2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking pwdr
- 1/2 teaspoon soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- Fat or possibly oil for deep-frying
- Beat egg and 1/2 c. sugar together.
- Add in starter, buttermilk, oil, 2 c. flour and remaining ingredients; except fat.
- Mix well and knead on board till smooth, using remaining flour to dust on board.
- Roll to a little less than 1/2 inch thickness and cut with floured 2 3/4 inch doughnuts cutter.
- Put on greased cookie sheet and let rise in hot place about 30 min.
- Then fry in deep fat (375 degrees on a frying thermometer) till golden and done.
- Drain on absorbent paper and roll in sugar.
- Makes about 1 1/2 dozen.
