Applesauce Bread
- 13 cup butter, softened
- 34-1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 14 cups applesauce
- 1 cup flour
- 12 cup whole wheat flour
- 2 tablespoons wheat germ (optional)
- 34 teaspoon baking soda
- 34 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 12 teaspoon baking powder
- 12 teaspoon salt
- 12 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 18 teaspoon ground cloves
- 12-1 cup dried fruit
- 12 cup nuts, chopped
- In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar.
- Add the egg and applesauce; mix well.
- Combine the flour, wheat germ, baking soda, cinnamon, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and cloves.
- Stir into creamed mixture just until moistened.
- Fold in dried fruit and nuts.
- Pour into a greased 8 inch x 4 inch loaf pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 60 to 65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
- Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack to cool completely.
