Mushroom and Bacon Pie

  1. Cook bacon, mushrooms and onions in a heavy based saucepan until onions are soft.
  2. Add beef and continue to stir until cooked.
  3. Stir in Vegemite*, Worcestershire sauce, carrots, water and basil.
  4. Bring to boil and simmer covered for 20 minutes.
  5. Stir in cornflour mixture, continue to stir over heat until mixture boils and thickens.
  6. Pour into a 23cm pie dish and top with pastry.
  7. Trim edges, brush with egg yolk and make two small slits in centre of pie.
  8. Decorate with pastry cut outs if desired.
  9. Place pie dish on an oven tray and bake at 200C for 10-15 minutes until lightly browned.
  10. Serve hot with tomato sauce or cold left-overs, for a delicious lunch or snack.
