Five-Star Molasses Tea Cakes

  1. Heat oven to 350F.
  2. Combine flour, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt in bowl.
  3. Add butter; beat at low speed until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Reserve 1/3 cup crumb mixture for topping; set aside.
  5. Stir in baking powder and baking soda to remaining crumb mixture.
  6. Beat at low speed until well mixed.
  7. Add milk and molasses; continue beating just until moistened.
  8. (Do not overmix.)
  9. Divide dough into 16 pieces.
  10. Shape into 3/4-inch thick moons, stars, circles, etc.
  11. Place 2-inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  12. Sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture.
  13. Bake 11-14 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  14. (Do not overbake.)
  15. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  16. Store in container with tight-fitting lid.
