Grandma's Three Cheese Casserole

  1. Combine flour, paprika, salt, and pepper in large zip top bag.
  2. Add meat, shaking well to cover.
  3. Heat oil in large skillet until rippling and just starting to smoke.
  4. Very carefully, add meat to skillet and cook until browned, approximately 5 minutes.
  5. Add minced garlic, and saute 1 minute.
  6. Add tomato sauce, soup, water, chili sauce, sugar, and oregano.
  7. Simmer until meat is tender, approximately 10 minutes.
  8. Meanwhile, cook egg noodles according to package instructions (usually 6-8 minutes in a quart of boiling, salted water.)
  9. Drain noodles.
  10. Combine meat mixture and noodles with the cream cheese, sour cream, and cottage cheese.
  11. Gently stir in the mushrooms and water chestnuts.
  12. Pour the mixture into a greased 2 quart casserole dish, and top with cheddar cheese.
  13. Bake at 350 degrees for about an hour.
