Country Log Cabin

  1. Make a pattern for log home using picture as a guide.
  2. The general dimensions of the house are 14 inches long x 11 inches wide x 10 inches high; the chimney is 4 1/2 inches long x 1 1/2 inches wide x 13 1/2 inches high.
  3. Cut base out of heavy-duty ca rdboard or foam core.
  4. Sketch windows and door on front piece of house and windows on back of house; cut out windows.
  5. Cut out four 3 x 3-inch squares of tracing paper and cellophane for windows.
  6. If desired, use colored markers to sketch candles on tracing paper.
  7. Place red cellophane over tracing paper and attach with tape to inside frame of window.
  8. Assemble front and back to sides of house using tape or hot glue.
  9. Assemble chimney; attach to side of house as illustrated.
  10. Assemble roof, secu ring at peak.
  11. Place over assembled house; do not attach.
  12. Reserve 2 (2 1/2-inch) squares graham crackers for door; cut each remaining square cracker in half.
  13. Halve 46 striped shortbread cookies for the roof and quarter the remaining eight; set aside.
  14. To prepare icing, mix 1 (16-ounce) package powdered sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar and 3 egg whites in large bowl; beat with mixer at low speed until blended.
  15. Beat at high speed for 5 minutes or until stiff peaks form.
  16. Cover and refrigerate un til ready to use.
  17. Make additional icing as needed one batch at a time.
