Poor Mans Chicken Fried Steak
- 1 pound Lean Ground Beef
- 3/4 cups Quick Oats Or Crushed Saltine Crackers
- 1 whole Egg
- 3 Tablespoons Milk
- 1- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1- 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1- 1/2 teaspoon Other Seasoning If Desired
- 1/2 cups Flour For Coating
- Vegetable Oil, For Frying
- In a medium sized mixing bowl combine ground beef, oats or crackers, egg, milk, and seasonings with your hands.
- Form into desired patty size.
- Coat patties in flour (or flour/cornmeal mix if desired).
- Place enough oil in large skillet or Dutch oven to come halfway up the side of each patty.
- Turn heat on medium -high (depending on your range top- I cook with gas).
- When oil is ready, place steaks in oil.
- Adjust heat so that the steaks do not burn.
- Let steaks cook approximately 2-3 minutes per side (or until steaks are no longer pink inside).
- Note: Reduce salt in recipe if using other seasoning (containing salt) and salted saltine crackers.
