Cabbage and Polish Sausage
- 1 pkg. Kielbasa sausage, chopped in 1/2-inch thick pieces
- 1 head cabbage
- 2 tbsp. butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 4 red potatoes, quartered
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup chicken stock
- Put a large stock pot on the stove and pre-heat to medium-high.
- Cut the cabbage on each side and the top, leaving the base of the head.
- * Turn burner up to high.
- Add just enough water or chicken stock to cover the bottom of the stock pot.
- Add cabbage sides and top, sausage, potatoes, butter, sugar, salt and pepper.
- Cook uncovered for 5 minutes.
- Turn heat down to medium, stir and cover.
- Stirring occassionally, let cook for 45 minutes or until cabbage becomes soft.
- Let cool slightly and serve in a bowl or on a plate.
- Cottage cheese and butter bread compliment this meal very well.
