Easy Peasy Shepherds Pie

  1. Start by peeling and chopping your potatoes.
  2. Boil them in water until they are fork tender.
  3. While the potatoes are cooking, finely chop the onion.
  4. Brown the onion and ground beef together in a hot skillet.
  5. When the beef is fully cooked, drain the fat and set aside.
  6. When the potatoes are tender, drain the water and add your milk and sour cream.
  7. Mash the potatoes, adding more sour cream or milk to get your desired texture.
  8. In a large baking dish, line the bottom of the dish with green beans.
  9. Next add the beef/onion mixture on top of the green beans.
  10. Then top the beef mixture with a layer of mashed potatoes.
  11. Repeat this process as many times as you would like.
  12. When finished with these layers, sprinkle the grated cheese on top.
  13. Bake at 350 degrees (F) for 20 minutes.
  14. This recipe can be switched up any way you would like.
  15. For example, my mother-in-law does not use onions, but instead, sprinkles garlic powder throughout the casserole.
  16. Also, some people prefer peas or corn rather than green beans.
  17. Experiment and see what suits your taste buds!
