Basic Easy Crust Recipe

  1. In a meium-size bowl stir the flour and salt together.
  2. Cut in the shortenings using a pastry blender.
  3. Keep working the flour and shortenings till the mix is rather grainy, like coarse cornmeal.
  4. In a small bowl mix the egg and vinegar together and, using a wooden fork, stir the mix into the flour.
  5. Add in sufficient ice water so which the dough barely holds together.
  6. Place on a marble pastry board or possibly a plastic countertop and knead for just a few turns, sufficient so the dough holds together and becomes rollable.
  7. I roll my dough out on waxed paper.
  8. It is easy to handle which way.
  9. If you have a marble rolling pin this will be easy.
  10. If you use a wooden one be sure to dust a tsp.
  11. of flour on it a couple of times when you are rolling the dough.
  12. Note: If you wish to use this recipe for a sweet pie simply stir in 1 Tbsp.
  13. of sugar along with the flour and salt.
