Shirley's Sourdough Starter
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups warm water (about 190 degrees)
- 1 fresh yeast cake
- Mix together all ingredients in a bowl or large jar (nothing metal).
- Set uncovered (or cover with a double thickness of cheese cloth) in a warm place (about 80 degrees) overnight.
- Mixture will smell sour and be full of bubbles.
- Keep your starter in the refrigerator in a glass jar covered with a piece of plastic wrap before screwing on the metal cap or a plastic container.
- After use, replenish with a proportional amount of flour and water.
