Grandmommy Suzies Chili Con Carne Recipe
- 3 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
- 1 lg. onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 1 pound minced beef
- 3 c. water
- 1 1/3 c. canned tomatoes
- 1 green pepper, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne
- 1 teaspoon cumin seed, crushed
- 1 sm. bay leaf
- 2 tbsp. chili pwdr
- 1/8 teaspoon basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Heat the oil in a skillet, add in the onion and garlic and saute/fry' till golden.
- Add in the meat and brown.
- Transfer the meat mix to a large saucepan and add in the remaining ingredients.
- Bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered till the sauce is as thick as desired, or possibly about three hrs.
- If you like, add in one can of kidney beans (liquid removed) just before serving.
- Serve with crusty bread and a salad.
