Fluffy Duffy for Bento

  1. Mix the rice with furikake, soy sauce, or whatever else you like to color it brown.
  2. Wrap with plastic wrap and make the face and ears.
  3. (This time, I used furikake rice seasoning.)
  4. This is the side view.
  5. Since the ears are made thinner than the face, they should sit a little lower.
  6. Press a small well into the center of the ears.
  7. Stuff the bento box with cooled side dishes.
  8. Using a circular cutter, cut out two circles.
  9. Using a slightly bigger cutter than what you used in Step 4, cut out one oval from the cheese.
  10. If you don't have an oval cutter, you can cut out two circles and piece them together.
  11. Put the cheese cut outs on top of the rice ball from Step 3 and use a noodle to secure them into place.
  12. Layer the nose piece over the eye pieces.
  13. Cut out the face parts from the nori.
  14. Using a thin straw, cut out two small circles of sliced cheese to make the pupils.
  15. Cut a mouth out of ham and attach to the face.
  16. (You can omit this step if you like).
  17. If you are not adding bonito flakes, you are now done!
  18. If you're adding bonito flakes, use chopsticks or something similar to attach the flakes.
  19. I think it's easier to add the bonito flakes before you add the cheese parts.
  20. This is the no-bonito version.
  21. If you attach on some eye lashes, you can also make Shellie May.
