Chocolate Raspberry Squares
- 1-1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup margarine
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1/2 tsp. almond extract
- 1 cup red raspberry jam
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup sliced almonds
- Preheat oven to 350F/180C.
- Grease a 13x9-inch (3.5 Litre) baking dish.
- In a large bowl, thoroughly combine flour and sugar.
- Cut in the margarine using a pastry blender until mixture is crumbling.
- Add egg, and almond extract, and mix until thoroughly combined.
- Set aside 1 cup of mixture for topping.
- Press remaining mixture into prepared baking dish.
- Evenly spread the raspberry jam over the dough.
- Combine reserved mixture, chocolate chips, and almonds.
- Evenly spoon over the raspberry jam, and press down lightly with the back of the spoon.
- Bake for 40 minutes.
