Sublime Grated Onion Sauce
- 1 Grated onion
- 50 ml Soy sauce
- 25 ml Mirin
- 25 ml Sake
- 25 ml Vinegar
- 25 ml plus Vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp Sugar
- 1 clove/piece of each Grated garlic, ginger
- 1/8 Grated apple (in the winter)
- Mix the flavoring ingredients together.
- Grate the onion.
- This is the hardest step.
- Grate the garlic and ginger.
- (If it's wintertime, grate an apple).
- Mix well to emulsify with the oil (blend well with the oil).
- If you let the sauce rest for 2 to 3 days the onion will blend with the other flavors and the sauce will be more delicious.
- You can add some honey or grated apple too.
- It goes well with grated daikon radish.
- Add it to a frying pan after cooking meat to make a sauce mixed with the leftover juices...
- For sauted meat (steak or chicken), wipe excess oil in the pan, add some of the sauce to the pan, reduce, then pour over the dish.
- You could top over a hamburger steak.
- Or on a tofu burger.
- Serve on slices of roast beef.
- Add it to the frying pan after cooking hamburgers, and bring to a quick boil to make sauce!
- Pour over hamburgers and serve with grated daikon radish on the side.
- It's great mixed into side vegetables like cabbage or bean sprouts, as well as with pasta or potatoes.
- Winter onions have a harsher taste, so the grated apple mellows the flavor.
