Mashed Potato and Ground Meat Gratin

  1. Mince the onion and garlic.
  2. Cut the potatoes into a bit smaller than bite-sized pieces, and soak in water.
  3. Add the potatoes, and enough water (excluded from the recipe) to cover them into a pot, then boil until they become soft.
  4. Drain the water, mash them well over very low heat while evaporating the moisture.
  5. Add the milk, salt and pepper, and mix.
  6. When thickened, add the butter and mayonnaise, and mix.
  7. The mashed potatoes are ready.
  8. Next, heat olive oil in a frying pan, and saute the garlic and onion.
  9. Add the ground meat, and fry until it becomes crumbly.
  10. Season with the ketchup, consomme, and sugar.
  11. Now your meat is ready, too.
  12. Put 1/2 of the mashed potatoes into a gratin dish and flatten the surface.
  13. Spread out the seasoned ground meat from Step 9 on top.
  14. Spread out the remaining mashed potatoes.
  15. Top with plenty of cheese.
  16. Bake in the oven until the cheese is browned, and done.
  17. Please be careful not to burn yourself.
