Baked Okra Fries
- 1 pound Fresh Okra
- 3 Tablespoons Coconut Oil, Divided Use
- 3 Tablespoons Brown Rice Flour
- 1 teaspoon Cumin
- 1/2 teaspoons Garlic Powder
- Preheat oven at 400 degrees F. Clean and dry your okra.
- Next cut okra into strips.
- This is the part that takes a little bit of time.
- We lightly tossed them in some coconut oil (about 1-2 teaspoons) to help make the flour and spices stick.
- Grab a Ziploc bag and place your cut okra strips into the bag.
- Toss in your brown rice flour and spices.
- You can spice them any way you like.
- Toss the bag all around till all the okra fries are covered in flour and spices!
- Take okra out of bag and place the now covered okra fries on a pan.
- We ended up adding a little bit more coconut oil on the pan (about 1 Tablespoon) to help make the fries crispy.
- Bake the okra fries in oven for 25-30 minutes.
- If you like, you can heat a large skillet and the remaining oil over medium heat and cook the okra some more, until your desired texture is reached.
- They ended up not getting as crispy as we were looking for by the time we pulled them out of the oven.
- Next time we will try it from the beginning on the skillet to see how it compares to baking them.
- Our batch of okra fries was a mix of crispy and soft, chewy okra fries.
- Not a bad attempt for our first time.
- Serves 2-3
coconut oil, brown rice flour, cumin, garlic
