Veggie Sloppy Joes
- 2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
- 1/2 whole Onion
- 1 whole Serrano Pepper (optional)
- 12 ounces, weight Veggie Protein Crumbles (I Use Smart Ground, Original)
- 1 Tablespoon Salt
- 1 Tablespoon Cumin
- 1 Tablespoon Chili Powder
- 1 teaspoon Cayenne
- 2 Tablespoons Red Wine Vinegar
- 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire (vegan)
- 10 ounces, weight Tomato Sauce (plain)
- Place a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add vegetable oil, onions, and serrano pepper.
- Saute for 5-7 minutes until soft.
- Add veggie protein crumbles, breaking apart the pieces with your fingers before dropping into the skillet.
- Stir.
- After 3 minutes, add spices (salt, cumin, chili powder, and cayenne) and sauces (red wine vinegar, Worcestershire, and half of the tomato sauce).
- Continue stirring.
- After the liquids are absorbed (5 minutes or so) add more tomato sauce until it is as sloppy as you like it.
- Serve immediately on toasted buns.
- Enjoy!
