Nutty Caramel Layer Brownies

  1. Heat oven to 350F.
  2. Combine evaporated milk and caramels in 2-quart saucepan.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, 6-8 minutes or until caramels are melted.
  4. Set aside.
  5. Combine butter, sugar and brown sugar in bowl.
  6. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy.
  7. Add melted chocolate, eggs and vanilla.
  8. Continue beating, scraping bowl often, until well mixed.
  9. Add flour; beat at low speed until just mixed.
  10. Stir in 1/2 cup chopped pecans.
  11. Spread 2 1/2 cups brownie mixture into greased 13x9-inch baking pan.
  12. Bake 15 minutes.
  13. Sprinkle chocolate chips over hot, partially baked brownie; spread caramel mixture over chips.
  14. Spoon remaining brownie mixture over caramel mixture; spread.
  15. (Brownie mixture may not cover all of caramel mixture.)
  16. Sprinkle 1 cup pecans over batter.
  17. Continue baking 20-30 minutes or until toothpick inserted at angle in top layer of brownie comes out clean.
  18. Cool 15 minutes; refrigerate until set.
  19. Cut into bars.
