Matar paneer(paneer with green peas)
- 250 grams paneer(indian cottage cheese-cut into small cubes)
- 2 medium onions(chopped finely)
- 2 medium tomatoes(chopped)
- 100 grams green peas(blanched)
- 1 an inch piece of ginger
- 6 clove garlic
- 3 green chillies
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 1 salt to taste
- 3 tsp vegetable oil
- 1 slice of lemon
- 1 coriander leaves for garnish
- grind the garlic,ginger and green chilli to a coarse paste either in a food processor or a mortar & pestle
- heat oil in a saucepan.when hot add the garlic ginger & chili paste
- saute for a minute then add the onions.saute until it starts browning a little
- add the cumin powder, coriander powder,turmeric powder and salt.add a little water and saute.
- now add the tomatoes and fry til tomatoes turn tender
- now add the peas and a half cup of water.cover & bring it to a boil
- add the paneer cubes add a quarter cup of water more.cook uncovered on medium heat til the paneer gets tender.stir once or twice.
- nw add the garam masala.squeeze the lemon slice into the curry.mix simmer for a minute.
- garnish with coriander & serve hot with rotis or naan or rice
