Jason's best Lasagna
- 1 lb Sweet Italian sausage
- 3/4 lb lean ground beef
- 1/2 cup onion, minced
- 2 clove garlic, crushed
- 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
- 6 oz tomato paste
- 6 1/2 oz tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp basil
- 1/2 tsp fennel seed
- 1 tsp italian seasoning
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 4 tbsp chopped parsley
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 2 cup cottage cheese (lasagna style)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 lb mozzarella (grated)
- 3/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated
- In a large pot, cook sausage, ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until well browned.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water.
- Season with sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, 1 tablespoon salt, pepper, in 2 tablespoons parsley.
- Simmer covered for one and a half hours, stirring occasionally.
- Cook lasagna noodles in boiling water for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Drain noodles, and rinse with cold water.
- In a mixing bowl, combine cottage cheese with egg, the remaining parsley, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
- Preheat oven to 375F
- To assemble, spread 2 cups of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9 by 13 inch baking.
- Then 3 lasagna noodles.
- Next, another 2 cups of sauce, then 3 more noodles.
- Next the cottage cheese mixture.
- 3 more noodles.
- 2 more cups of sauce.
- Repeat noodles and sauce till finished.
- Top with the grated cheese.
- Bake at 375F for 30 minutes.
- Cool for 10 minutes before cutting.
