skye's homemade cinnamon applesauce
- 2 cup grated apples (approx 2 medium apples), I like to use one tart granny smith and one gala
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tbsp sugar (more or less to your taste)
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 juice from half a lemon
- in a small heavy sauce pan... combine all ingredients and bring to a boil.
- lower heat to a simmer, give everything a good stir, then put the lid on and let cook for about 20 minutes (shorter time if you don't want your apples cooked a whole lot... longer time if you want them a little "mushy".
- I like mine right about in the middle.
- *grins*).
- when your apples get to the texture you like... your applesauce is done.
- remove from heat and allow to cool before storing it in the refrigerator.
- enjoy this by itself or as a topping.
- I like to put some in my oatmeal or over my whole wheat pancakes.
- it's even amazing warmed up just a bit and put on top of vanilla ice cream.... like a yummy apple pie without the crust.
- mmmmm.
