Italian-Style Meat Loaf
- 1 1/2 lb. meat loaf mix (ground beef, pork and veal) or 1 1/2 lb. lean ground beef
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1/2 c. Italian-style bread crumbs
- 1/4 c. chopped onion
- 1/2 tsp. dried sweet basil, crumbled
- 1/2 tsp. dried oregano, crumbled
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 (10 1/2 oz.) can pizza sauce
- 2 oz. thinly sliced Mozzarella cheese
- In a large bowl, combine the meat, egg, bread crumbs, onion, seasonings and 1/2 can pizza sauce. Mix well. Form into a large round loaf and place in a 3-quart round casserole.
- Pour the remaining pizza sauce over the meat loaf.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours. Top with the sliced cheese and bake 5 more minutes. Remove from the oven and let stand 5 minutes before slicing.
- Makes 6 servings.
