Green Beans And Water Chestnuts With Sour Cream And Herb Sauce
- 1 lb. fresh green beans or 2 (10 oz. size) pkg. frozen beans
- 1 (5 oz.) can water chestnuts, drained or 1 c. diced celery, cooked 5 minutes
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 2 Tbsp. finely chopped onion
- 1/2 tsp. thyme
- 1/2 tsp. marjoram
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. white pepper
- 1/2 c. sour cream
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1/2 c. bread crumbs
- 2 Tbsp. melted butter
- Clean and cut green beans into 1-inch pieces.
- Cook beans and drain.
- Slice water chestnuts.
- Saute onion in butter until golden.
- Add herbs, seasonings, sour cream and milk.
- Heat, but do not boil.
- Combine beans, water chestnuts and onion mixture into a 1 1/2-quart buttered casserole.
- Combine bread crumbs and melted butter.
- Sprinkle on top.
- Bake at 375u0b0 for 15 to 20 minutes, until crumbs are nicely browned.
- Serves 8.
