Sopapillas

  1. In large bowl blend flour, baking powder and salt
  2. Add lard or shortening
  3. Add warm milk or warm water and mix quickly until dough forms a mass
  4. Turn dough onto floured surface ( counter top or cutting board)
  5. knead the dough by folding it in half and pushing down a few times.
  6. dough should not be to sticky.
  7. Put the dough back in the bowl and cover bowl with( hand towel or plastic wrap) for about 10 to 15 min
  8. divide dough in 1/2 keep other half covered so it doesn't dry.
  9. Roll the dough on floured board to 1/8 in thick.
  10. cut dough into rectangles to whatever size u like.
  11. heat the vegetable oil to 400F in large skillet or deep fryer.
  12. carefully put first sopapilla in hot oil.
  13. once its puffed u can turn it around until golden brown.
  14. place cooked sopapillas on a plate with a paper towel.
  15. once they are all done enjoy with some honey :)
