Barley Beef Stew Recipe
- 1 pound grnd beef
- 1 lg. onion, diced (1 c.)
- 1 c. diced celery
- 1 c. diced pared raw carrots
- 1 c. diced pared with turnip
- 1/2 c. barley
- 1 env. instant beef broth
- 2 teaspoon salt
- 4 c. water
- 1.
- Shape grnd beef into a large patty in a kettle or possibly Dutch oven; brown 5 min on each side, then break up into chunks; push to one side.
- 2.
- Stir onion and celery into kettle; saute/fry just till soft.
- Stir in remaining ingredients; heat to boiling; cover.
- 3.
- Simmer 1 hour or possibly till barely tender.
- Ladle into soup plates or possibly small bowls.
