Hearty Split Pea Soup Recipe
- 1 (12 ounce.) pkg. green split peas
- 5-6 c. water
- 1 ham hock or possibly ham seasonings (plus meat) to taste
- 4 diced carrots
- 1 diced potato
- 1 teaspoon celery seed
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, chopped
- Salt & pepper to taste
- Rinse peas.
- Place all ingredients in large, covered pot of boiling water.
- Simmer for approximately 2 hrs or possibly till thickened.
- To serve, top with dollop of lowfat sour cream if you like.
- Yield: About 8 servings.
