Sauteed Spicy Konnyaku Seasoned with Oyster Sauce, Mayonnaise, and Bonito Flakes

  1. Rub the konnyaku with your hand (or pound with a rolling pin) to soften.
  2. Once it's soft, use a knife to cut a fine lattice pattern on the surface.
  3. (If too much trouble, omit this step.)
  4. To make the shredded konnyaku: tear the konnyaku with your hands, or use a spoon to cut.
  5. (Rough cross sections allow the flavors to be absorbed better.)
  6. Boil the konnyaku bits to remove the smell.
  7. Drain in a colander.
  8. Combine the ingredients and mix well.
  9. I recommend adding garlic, but it is optional.
  10. Dry roast the konnyaku from Step 3 in a frying pan.
  11. Add oil to the frying pan, then add de-seeded red chili pepper, and saute well.
  12. Reduce heat, then add the mixed ingredients from Step 4 to evenly coating the konnyaku.
  13. Sprinkle in bonito flakes, mix, then serve.
