Simple White Bread

  1. Measure water into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Sprinkle yeast over the water.
  3. Add dry milk, sugar, salt, oil and about 3 1/4 cups flour to make a thick batter.
  4. Blend well.
  5. Beat 3 minutes at medium speed.
  6. By hand, gradually add remaining flour to form a very stiff dough.
  7. Toss dough on a floured board until it's no longer sticky.
  8. Knead until smooth, 1 to 2 minutes.
  9. Divide in half.
  10. Roll dough to a 12 x 6-inch rectangle.
  11. Roll up tightly with 6-inch side.
  12. Seal the edges and ends.
  13. Place seams down in 2 greased 8 1/2 x 4 1/2-inch loaf pans.
  14. Cover and let rise 1 hour or until doubled.
  15. Bake at 375u0b0 for 35 to 40 minutes.
  16. Remove from pans immediately.
  17. Brush with butter.
