Sarah's Spud Nuts Aka Doughnuts

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Beat shortening, sugar and eggs.
  3. Add the dissolved yeast to this mixture.
  4. Add milk, spices and salt to this mixture and enough flour (between 6-7 cups) to make a soft dough.
  5. Place in a greased bowl and covered and let rise until double in size.
  6. Roll out on a lightly floured surface to 1/2 inch thick and cut into doughnut shapes.
  7. Place on a greased sheet and cover - letting rise again until double.
  8. In the meantime mix up the glaze ingredients together.
  9. Fry in hot oil until brown.
  10. Place on a wire rack with a piece of parchment underneath and glaze.
