Sarah's Spud Nuts Aka Doughnuts
- 12 cup shortening
- 12 cup sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 12 cups milk
- 6 -7 cups flour
- 14 ounce yeast
- 12 cup warm water
- 12 teaspoon salt
- 1 12 cups instant mashed potatoes (made)
- 14 teaspoon nutmeg
- 12 teaspoon cinnamon
- 12 cup boiling water
- 1 tablespoon margarine
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 lb powdered sugar
- Dissolve yeast in warm water.
- Beat shortening, sugar and eggs.
- Add the dissolved yeast to this mixture.
- Add milk, spices and salt to this mixture and enough flour (between 6-7 cups) to make a soft dough.
- Place in a greased bowl and covered and let rise until double in size.
- Roll out on a lightly floured surface to 1/2 inch thick and cut into doughnut shapes.
- Place on a greased sheet and cover - letting rise again until double.
- In the meantime mix up the glaze ingredients together.
- Fry in hot oil until brown.
- Place on a wire rack with a piece of parchment underneath and glaze.
