Natural Wool Pre-Dye (Mordant)
- 1 34 teaspoons powdered alum
- 1 gallon soft water
- Stir alum into water over heat.
- Add wool.
- Gradually increase the temperature of the mixture until it reaches the simmering point.
- This should take about an hour.
- Stirring wool occasionally, simmer another hour.
- Turn off heat and allow mixture to cool to about room temperature.
- Proceed with dyeing when wool has cooled, or dry treated wool and store in plastic bags for future use.
