Grandma Bea's Classic Lasagna

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions.
  3. Drain and rinse.
  4. Heat a large nonstick skilet over medium-high heat.
  5. Add sausage and onion.
  6. Stir and cook until sausage is browned (about 10 minutes).
  7. Drain liquid.
  8. Stir in red pepper and garlic.
  9. Remove from heat.
  10. In a large bowl, combine eggs, cheeses, and basil.
  11. Mix until well blended.
  12. Spread a thin layer of sauce in a 13 x 9" baking pan.
  13. Add a layer of noodles, then a layer of cheese mixture, then a layer of sausage.
  14. Repeat (sauce, noodles, cheese, sausage).
  15. The topmost layers should be: sauce, noodles, sauce, tomato slices.
  16. Cover pan with foil.
  17. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes, then remove foil, and bake until bubbly (about 15 minutes).
  18. Let stand for 5 minutes, then serve.
