Perfect White Bread Recipe
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/4 c. hot water
- 2 c. lowfat milk, scalded
- 5 3/4 to 6 1/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp. sugar
- 2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tbsp. shortening
- Mix yeast with hot water.
- Combine warm lowfat milk, sugar, salt and shortening; cold.
- Add in 2 c. flour to lowfat milk, mix well.
- Add in yeast, mix well.
- Add in sufficient of the remaining flour to make moderately stiff dough.
- Knead dough 8-10 min.
- Shape into a ball.
- Place in a greased bowl; turn over.
- Cover; let rise in a hot place till doubled.
- Punch down, shape into 2 balls.
- Cover and let rest 10 min.
- Shape into loaves, put into greased loaf pans.
- Cover and let rise to double again.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 35 min.
- If bread is browning too fat, cover with foil for the last 15 min.
