Mashed Turnips with Nutmeg
- 6 pounds turnips, peeled, sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Preheat oven to 325F.
- Toss turnips and butter in 13 x 9 x 2-inch glass baking dish.
- Sprinkle turnips with salt and pepper.
- Cover dish with foil.
- Bake until tender, about 1 hour.
- Remove from oven and mash coarsely.
- Stir in nutmeg.
- Season to taste with salt and pepper.
