Chocolate Cake from the Settlement Cookbook-1965

  1. Preheat oven to 325F.
  2. Grease and floor 2 nine inch Lauer pans, set aside.
  3. Sift flour, sugar, and salt together.
  4. Add butter and mix with fingertips or pastry blender to the consistency of corn meal.
  5. Boil water and chocolate.
  6. Cool.
  7. Add to butter mixture.
  8. Beat very well.
  9. Chill thoroughly.
  10. Add eggs, vanilla and baking powder.
  11. Pour mixture equally into pans and bake for 35-40 minutes, until cake tater or fork comes out clean when inserted in center.
