Broiled Salmon with Apple-Date Chutney

  1. Preheat broiler.
  2. Brush each salmon steak with 1 teaspoon oil.
  3. Sprinkle each with 1/4 teaspoon curry powder, salt and pepper.
  4. Broil salmon until just opaque in center, about 5 minutes per side.
  5. Meanwhile, heat remaining 4 teaspoons oil in heavy medium skillet over medium-low heat.
  6. Add onion and saute until onion begins to soften, about 3 minutes.
  7. Mix in apple, dates, apple juice and remaining 1 teaspoon curry powder.
  8. Cook 2 minutes longer.
  9. Mix in vinegar; simmer 1 minute.
  10. Season chutney to taste with salt and pepper.
  11. Transfer salmon to plates.
  12. Spoon chutney alongside and serve.
