Molasses Cookies With Baked -On Frosting

  1. Preheat oven to 375.
  2. Lightly grease cookie sheets.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine flour, cinnamon, ginger, salt and soda.
  4. In a large bowl, beat together brown sugar, shortening, molasses and egg until well blended.
  5. Stir in the flour mixture.
  6. Prepare the frosting.
  7. Roll out the dough to a 1/4 inch thickness on a floured surface.
  8. Cut into desired shapes.
  9. Place on greased baking sheet 1 inch apart.
  10. Frost the cookies.
  11. Bake 7-8 minutes or until edges are firm.
  12. Transfer to wire racks to cool.
  13. Makes about 3 1/2 dozen 3 inch cookies.
