Parmesan Herb Bread

  1. Set aside 1 cup of flour.
  2. Mix remaining flour, 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, sugar, onion salt, celery salt, oregano, and yeast.
  3. Combine water, milk, and 1/3 cup shortening in a saucepan and heat just until boiling.
  4. Stir into dry ingredients.
  5. Add egg and mix in enough of the reserved flour to make a stiff dough.
  6. Divide between 2 greased 1-quart (1 liter) loaf pans.
  7. Cover and let rise in warm place until almost double -- about 30 minutes.
  8. Brush loaves with 1 tablespoons melted shortening and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese.
  9. Bake at 350F for 30-35 minutes.
