GGUSD Cheese Rolls
- 1 quart whole milk
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 (3/4 ounce) packets dry yeast
- 9 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 2 cups melted butter
- 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 cups shredded mild cheddar cheese
- In a large saucepan, combine: milk, oil & sugar and heat until almost boiling.
- Remove from heat and allow to sit and reach room temperature (1 hour).
- Add packets of dry yeast and allow 2 minutes for the yeast to warm.
- Add 8 cups flour and mix thoroughly.
- Cover and let rest for 1 hour.
- Add: 1 c flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
- Use dough immediately or refrigerate overnight.
- Divide dough in half.
- Using lots of flour, knead dough and roll out to 6" x 18".
- Add: 3/4 c butter, 2 c mozzarella cheese, 1 c mild cheddar cheese.
- Spread evenly on dough.
- Roll dough from one edge up.
- Pinch the top of dough into a tight seam.
- Cut into 18 rolls and place into a buttered pan.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Cover the rolls and allow them to rise while oven preheats.
- Brush remaining butter on top of rolls.
- You may also sprinkle garlic salt on top.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes.
- To store extras: cover immediately with foil.
- Place in a freezer bag and freeze.
- To bake after frozen: Defrost overnight.
- Allow to rise and bake accordingly.
