Pastel Marbled Stars

  1. Combine 1 cup sugar and butter in bowl.
  2. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy.
  3. Add sour cream, egg, orange zest, vanilla and orange extract; continue beating until well mixed.
  4. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; beat at low speed until well mixed.
  5. Divide dough into thirds.
  6. Stir yellow food color into one-third of dough.
  7. Stir red food color into second third.
  8. Wrap each third in plastic food wrap.
  9. Refrigerate 1 hour or until firm.
  10. Heat oven to 375F.
  11. Spoon 1 to 1 1/2-inch pieces from half of each color of dough randomly onto lightly floured surface (keeping remaining dough refrigerated).
  12. Press colors together to form circle.
  13. Roll out dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
  14. Cut with 2 to 2 1/2-inch star cookie cutter.
  15. Repeat with remaining dough.
  16. Place cookies 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  17. Sprinkle with large grain sugar.
  18. Bake 5-7 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
