Debbies Apple Pie
- 6 granny smith apples
- 12 cup butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 14 cup water
- 12 cup white sugar
- 12 cup brown sugar
- 12 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 12 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 double crust pie crust (home made or Pillsberry)
- Preheat oven 425 degrees.
- Peel, core and slice apples and place in large bowl.
- Sprinkle with spices.
- Toss to mix.
- Melt butter in saucepan and stir in flour to form paste.
- Add water, white and brown sugar and bring to boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
- Pour over apples and toss to coat apples.
- Pour apple mixture into 9" deep dish pie shell leaving about tablespoon of syrup in bowl.
- Top with pie crust and cut vents.
- Brush some of the sugar mixture left in bowl over pie crust.
- Sprinkle with teaspoon of white sugar.
- Bake 15 minutes then reduce heat to 350 degrees and continue baking 50 minutes.
- Remove from oven.
