Simmered Twisted Konnyaku

  1. Cut the konnyaku into 5 mm thick slices.
  2. Make a slit in the middle of each slice.
  3. Thread the end through the slit in the middle to make a "rein knot."
  4. Boil the konnyaku for about a minute, and drain.
  5. Put the ingredients and the konnyaku in a pan, and turn on the heat.
  6. Bring to a boil, then turn down the heat to low and put a small lid right on top of the food.
  7. Simmer until there's no moisture left in the pan.
  8. When there is no more moisture in the pan, add the bonito flakes and turn off the heat.
  9. It tastes better if you let it cool down first to let the flavors penetrate the konnyaku.
  10. It's delicious served cold.
