Chicken Chop Suey Recipe
- 1 1/2 tbsp. shortening
- 1/2 c. thin sliced chicken
- 1 level teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoon soy sauce
- 2/3 c. water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1/2 c. celery, minced
- 1/2 c. minced onion
- 1/2 pound bean sprouts
- 1/2 pound Chinese cabbage
- Heat shortening in pan till very warm; add in chicken and salt.
- Saute/fry for 2 min.
- To this add in 1 tsp.
- soy sauce; add in vegetables.
- Stir and cook for 3 min.
- Add in 1/3 c. water; cover and cook for 3 min.
- Now make your gravy by mixing 1 tsp.
- cornstarch and 1 tsp.
- soy sauce to remainder of water; add in to chop suey and stir till gravy reaches desired consistency.
- Serve with steaming warm rice.
- Serves 4-5 people.
- Entire recipe should be cooked over high flame.
- Variations: Pork, beef, shrimp, mushrooms etc.
- can be substituted for the chicken.
