Western Barbecue Burgers W/Beer Barbecue Sauce

  1. Cook bacon in a skillet over med-high heat.
  2. Drain on paper towels and set aside.
  3. Pour barbecue sauce into a small saucepan and add ale, salt and pepper.
  4. Boil one minute and remove from heat.
  5. Shape burger into 4 patties.
  6. Sprinkle with additional salt and pepper, if desired.
  7. Spray stove-top grill or large skillet with nonstick spray.
  8. Heat over med-high heat until hot.
  9. Add onion slices and cook, turning often, until softened and slightly charred, about 4 minutes.
  10. Remove and set aside.
  11. Add burger patties to grill pan and cook 3-5 minutes per side or until desired doneness.
  12. Place patties on bun bottoms, top with onions, bacon and then barbecue sauce.
  13. Place lettuce and tomatoes on top bun.
  14. Serve open face on plate.
